Portfolio architecture & engineering
Employment Accomplishments
I am an ICS (Information Communication Services) employee of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a direct assignment to support CES (Church Education Services) services and applications. My Global Education work includes BYU-Pathway and Seminaries and Institutes.
I have growing experience with Student Information Systems (SIS), helping develop and support educational applications for students. I also wired OAuth and OpenID Connect (OIDC) into my starter application using Okta.
My work across Global Education connects architecture, engineering, quality assurance, product leadership, AI strategy, governance, and security. I created reusable starter projects, automation scaffolding, and QA templates, and developed standards, frameworks, operating models, training, and roadmaps to help improve release confidence, automation maturity, security posture, and engineering effectiveness.
I currently serve as a Sr. Software Architect (Portfolio Architect), a role I began in February 2026, following my Engineering Manager role from February 2021 to February 2026. The work below includes established practices, implementation contributions, recommendations, evaluations, and ongoing transition planning.
Software Delivery and Systems Integration
I have delivered full-stack production applications using these shared engineering resources. The reusable starters capture working architecture, implementation patterns, and validation practices that support product development.
Shared Full-Stack Application Templates
I created C#/.NET and Node.js/React starter projects that bring together ASP.NET Core APIs, Next.js clients, shared .NET libraries, Aspire orchestration, QA automation, and delivery templates. The broader application foundation includes authentication integration, Redis caching, feature management, configuration validation, and configurable telemetry.
I wired OAuth and OpenID Connect (OIDC) into my starter application using Okta.
Marketing Website Foundation
I built a focused marketing-site starter with feature-based boundaries, reusable UI components, localization, and token-based light and dark themes. Its same-origin API proxy validates write payloads, restricts upstream destinations, filters headers, limits payload sizes, applies timeouts, and returns safe errors with trace correlation. Unit, client, and browser tests accompany the starter, alongside runtime-only non-root container packaging and delivery templates.
Technologies: C#, .NET 10, ASP.NET Core, Node.js, Next.js, React, TypeScript, .NET Aspire, Tailwind CSS, Headless UI, Zod, Storybook, NUnit, Selenium, Vitest, OpenTelemetry, Redis, Auth0/OIDC, Docker, and Azure DevOps.
Systems and API Integration
I integrated Zendesk, our third-party help-center documentation and training platform, with internal services that provide custom role-based access. I also implemented various API integrations and services to connect applications and support product functionality.
Quality Engineering and Automation
I was the primary developer of a reusable .NET QA automation framework, carrying out nearly all of its development. Its modular architecture supports API, browser, data, and container-backed test suites through shared configuration, dependency injection, logging, and fixture lifecycles.
- Delivered named-site configuration and multi-browser execution across Selenium and Playwright, with reusable page models and API test clients.
- Implemented diagnostic capture, redaction, schema validation, screenshot evidence, and HTML sequence reports to help teams investigate failures.
- Built isolated container-backed validation environments with controlled resource lifecycles, dynamic endpoints, API mocks, and OAuth/OIDC test flows.
- Added schema-validated workflow specifications, application discovery, and test traceability for AI-assisted authoring while keeping AI services separate from test execution.
- Delivered reusable packages and browser execution tooling for consuming test suites.
Technologies: C#, .NET 8/9/10, NUnit, Selenium, Playwright, Testcontainers, Docker/Podman, WireMock, Keycloak, OAuth/OIDC, SQL Server, NuGet, YAML, JSON Schema, and Playwright MCP for application discovery.
I authored and drove enterprise QA modernization strategies for Global Education, bringing together repository-owned testing, shared QA platform capabilities, enterprise end-to-end validation, automated quality gates, and objective release governance. I helped shape TAPIR, VISTA, and shift-left quality initiatives, positioning TAPIR and VISTA as enterprise confidence layers and working to increase testing coverage. I defined end-to-end testing strategies, release-confidence expectations, and business-critical testing paths, and led architecture work to clarify quality ownership.
I standardized enterprise QA frameworks using Microsoft-, Amazon-, and Google-style maturity models, organized TAPIR training and governance, and created shift-left automation frameworks. My implementation contributions included directing work involving Playwright, NUnit, QA API, WireMock, and automated testing standards. I also created team automation scaffolding and reusable QA templates to support consistent approaches.
These strategies were documented in E2E Quality Engineering, Global Ed - QA Automation Overview, and Global Ed - QA Automation Roadmap.
Developer Toolbox and Engineering Enablement
I developed a shared developer toolbox that combines Dev Containers, local service emulators, cross-platform setup and teardown scripts, and reusable AI engineering resources. Consumer-repository bootstrap tooling preserves existing files while adding shared setup support.
The toolbox provides local database, cache, storage, messaging, email, API-mocking, and telemetry services. A canonical library of engineering instructions, roles, prompts, and skills supplies synchronized adapters for GitHub Copilot, Codex, and Claude Code.
Technologies: PowerShell, Bash, Dev Containers, Docker/Podman Compose, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB and DynamoDB emulators, Redis, Azurite, Azure Service Bus emulator, WireMock, smtp4dev, Seq, OpenTelemetry, Azure DevOps pipeline templates, and GitHub Actions workflow definitions.
AI-Assisted Engineering and Software Factory
I led architecture work for AI-assisted development, AI-generated testing, agent orchestration, AI governance, review workflows, and AI-enabled engineering practices. I influenced Software Factory direction and helped establish portfolio adoption guidance, brought architecture teams together to develop approaches to AI and quality engineering, and served as the lead for engineer-focused AI enablement and technical implementation within the Education AI strategy.
I defined AI-assisted QA processes and AI-generated testing strategies, explored AI code-review approaches, and established governance and review models for AI-generated artifacts. I also helped define how workforce responsibilities and engineering roles can evolve in an AI-enabled future.
I use AI as a thinking partner while retaining human accountability, verification, appropriate testing, and operational safeguards. Critical production and architecture decisions remain subject to human oversight.
Enterprise AI Architecture and Reuse
I helped define agent orchestration frameworks, shared marketplace models, skills governance, AI reuse patterns, shared skill repositories, and agent lifecycle governance.
I contributed to Foundry and Bedrock evaluations and recommended shared enterprise marketplaces, skill governance boards, versioning and ownership requirements, standardized deployment pipelines, and reusable organizational AI capabilities.
Portfolio Architecture and Engineering Governance
As a recurring participant and contributor in the Portfolio Architecture & Engineering Council, I helped drive portfolio architecture standards, AI architecture readiness, technology governance, Software Factory strategy, cloud direction decisions, and engineering modernization efforts. My contributions included AI spend governance recommendations, architecture impact analysis, and contributions to cloud migration strategy and platform modernization planning.
I provided technology reviews to support approval of technology adoption and implementation.
Security and Technology Onboarding
My security review and governance work involving BYU-Pathway systems included security ownership analysis, incident-response governance, technology onboarding controls, and security review process improvements. I worked on monitoring and observability expectations, as well as shadow IT identification and remediation.
